New Rule for STEM OPT

Latest Change In Green Cards

USCIS recently changed the appearance of certain Permanent Resident Cards (Form I-551), also known as green cards. An increasing number of green cards are being issued with the words “Signature Waived” in place of the lawful permanent resident’s actual signature. Read the USCIS Web Alert for more information.

Reminder: F-1 Students Enrolled in CPT Must Use Redesigned Form I-20

As of July 1, 2016, employees who are F-1 students enrolled in curricular practical training (CPT) must present the redesigned Form I-20, Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status, issued by ICE to complete Form I-9. Previous versions of Form I-20 containing a bar code are no longer acceptable. Designated school officials began issuing the redesigned Form I-20 to F-1 students enrolled in CPT on June 26, 2015.

On April 16, 2015, The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Verification and Documentation Liaison Committee met with the USCIS Verification Division and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Washington, DC. During the meeting, USCIS officials responded to questions submitted by AILA representatives on a variety of E-Verify and Form I-9 related topics, including Form I-9 rehire rules, guidelines for addressing E-Verify noncompliance and E-Verify communication to employees.
