TPS for Somalia Extended and Somalia Redesignated for TPS for 18 Months; EADs Automatically Extended Through March 16, 2022
Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalia and redesignated Somalia for TPS for 18 months, from Sept. 18, 2021, through March 17, 2023. Current beneficiaries who want to maintain their status must re-register July 22, 2021 through September 20, 2021. Somali nationals and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Somalia may submit an initial registration application under the redesignation of Somalia for TPS and apply for an EAD between July 22, 2021 and March 17, 2023.
Given the time frames for processing TPS re-registration applications, USCIS has automatically extended the validity of certain Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) issued under the TPS designation for Somalia through March 16, 2022.
TPS beneficiaries presenting an EAD referenced in this Federal Register notice do not need to show any other document, such as an I-797C Notice of Action, to prove that they qualify for this extension. SAVE will be able to verify the continuation of an applicant’s TPS using their recent TPS-related document along with their Alien Number or I-94 number. You may need to perform additional verification steps to confirm the applicant’s TPS.
