1.  Why do some I-601 waivers of inadmissibility take so long to adjudicate? USCIS Response:   Several factors affect the processing time of a Form I-601, Application for Waiver of Grounds of Inadmissibility.  The factors include the location where application is filed, the complexity of the facts of a case, and the need for any additional research or information, such as a request for additional evidence (RFE).  The location where an application is filed impacts processing time in two ways:

Starting 07/06/2018, we will only accept the 04/27/18 edition. Until then, the 12/23/16, and previous editions can be used.

On April 15, 2018, we used a computer-generated random selection process to select enough petitions to meet the fiscal year (FY) 2019 cap of 4,999 for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI)-Only Transitional Worker (CW-1) program.
USCIS Updates Policy on DNA Evidence in Support of Sibling Relationships

USCIS has updated its policy on the acceptance of DNA evidence supporting sibling relationships. This policy memorandum permits officers to suggest and consider direct sibling-to-sibling DNA test results, and provides standards for evaluating DNA results for full siblings and half siblings.
USCIS to Begin Using More Secure Mail Delivery Service

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today that the agency will begin phasing in use of the U.S. Postal Service’s (USPS) Signature Confirmation Restricted Delivery service to mail Green Cards and other secure documents beginning April 30, 2018.

We released a new documentary video, USCIS and the Legacy of Ellis Island, following an internal premiere for the agency’s employees. From 1892 to 1954, the federal immigration service and its employees processed over twelve million immigrants at the Ellis Island Immigration Station in New York Harbor.
